Gifts of Securities
While the option of donating publicly listed securities to charities has been available for some time, the federal budget of May 2, 2006 has made it a much more attractive proposition. Donors are no longer taxed on the capital gains accrued on securities that are donated to a registered charity.
Under these taxation rules, if a person donates stock that was originally purchased for $400 and now has a fair market value of $1000, they will receive a tax receipt for $1000 and will not have to pay tax on the gain. Prior to donating shares, we recommend that donors consult with their financial advisor.
The process of making a gift of shares is easy. The main requirement is that you and your broker provide a letter of authorization to transfer the stock to an account established by the London Children’s Museum. Please contact our fund development office at 519-434-5726 ext. 231 for additional details.
Gifts in Kind
A Gift in Kind is a non-monetary gift that can be liquidated so that London Children’s Museum (ie: real estate) or a gift of goods that the Museum is in need of (ie: artifacts, silent auction items, or programming materials). Please contact our fund development office at 519-434-5726 ext. 231 for additional details.
Planned Giving
A planned gift can make a huge difference to the London Children’s Museum. These truly special gifts can fund new and wonderful children’s programs and exhibits which enhance our young visitor’s experience. Legacy gifts can also provide an endowment to help with future funding priorities.
A planned gift enables you to make a significant gift from your estate, rather than out of current income, and make a lasting difference to the Museum. Leaving a legacy may be as simple as directing your lawyer to add bequest wording in a codicil to your will.
Types of Planned Gifts include:
- Bequests
- Gifts in Kind
- Gifts of Insurance
- Annuities
We recommend that you consult your own financial and legal advisors to discuss this option. We would welcome the opportunity to work with you to develop a gift that is personally meaningful to you, while advancing the experience at the London Children’s Museum. Please contact our fund development office at 519-434-5726 ext. 231 for more information.
