Free Family STEAM

London Children’s Museum at Family Centre Carling Thames

Location: 335 Belfield St, London, Ontario

Join the London Children’s Museum at Family Centre Carling-Thames for an afternoon of free, hands-on STEAM! Each Wednesday from 4 pm - 5 pm, explore engaging science materials as family. Get hands-on with hydraulics, explore your senses with slime, study squishy circuits! Programs are designed for children age 5 - 10 and their caregivers. Space is limited and registration is required.

May 18: Hydraulics

Learn about the properties of liquids and how hydraulics are used in different mechanical systems. Create a machine and investigate the various ways hydraulics can improve your creations. Use simple materials like popsicle sticks, cardboard, and hose line to create cranes, bulldozers, and other mighty machines!

May 25: Magnetic Slime

Experiment with magnetism and create your own magnetic slime. Using iron oxide powder, discover what happens when your slime comes into contact with a strong magnet.

June 1: Circuits
Experiment with Makey Makeys, energy sticks, and squishy circuits. Explore the fundamentals of circuit building and the roles circuits play in our every day lives. Learn about the components of a circuit and explore unique circuit building materials.

June 8: Ozobots
Explore coding basics by experimenting with Ozobots. Draw sequences and commands for your Ozobot to follow. Program your robot and teach it to spin, zigzag, and more!

June 15: STEM + Art
Combine science and art to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Unleash your creativity with mini pendulum painting, gravity painting, and more.

June 22: Gears
Experiment with gears and learn how they work together to form a gear system. Change the speed and direction of your gear system while transforming one type of motion into another.
