Science isn’t what you know; it’s a way of thinking! Nurture your early learner’s scientific brain in this weekly, drop-in program. Test, observe, and examine a new material each week in this hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) program, specially designed for early learners. Look out for weekly themes!
All programs are included in general admission and are free for members. Admission can be purchased in advance online or by walk-in at our front desk!
June 1, 2023 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Scoping Out Symmetry
Explore your reflection, and learn about symmetry by experimenting with different images reflected in a mirror. We invite you to walk and see double, explore natural symmetry in the great outdoors, and practice fine motor skills to create symmetrical creations.
June 8, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Magnet Magic
Explore the almost magical process of magnetism during a morning of magnet mayhem! Hypothesize what items are magnetic as you wave magnet wands over bins of different objects. Get your hands messy with magnet slime and watch as it moves to follow the magnetic attraction or repulsion with magnetic items. Use magnets to create unique patterns, and explore push-and-pull magnetic fun as you learn all about this scientific process.
June 15, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Mind-Body Matching
Explore your body and mind and how it works together to make you who you are! Practice fine motor skills by pining the nose of the face, using hand and feet images to make patterns, and exploring how what you think can affect your physical body.
June 22, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Launch and Learn
Drop, roll, and throw as we explore objects in motion and the effects of gravity. Test out the scientific theory and use trial and error with energy and motion as you roll objects down ramps, throw them through hoops, and launch them up into space.
June 29, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Pollination Simulation
Explore the textures of nature where insects pollinate. Test how pollination occurs as you practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to collect pompoms and pip cleaners with Velcro to mimic the pollination process. See if there are any movements or techniques that make pollination more or less successful.
July 6, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Bubbles and Beyond
Immerse yourself in bubbly fun as you make, chase, and pop bubbles. Create your own bubble art, bounce bubbles to a friend, and explore the scientific properties of bubbles. Look beyond as you create bubble planets, wonder at the constellations, and build space mobiles.
July 13, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Museum Makers
Cut, build, and crawl your way through your own DIY cardboard museum. Use your imagination as you experiment with the strength and stability of cardboard structures. Design your museum with towers, windows, doors, and more!
July 20, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Nature Colours
Explore a morning of colours and test your imagination as you discover natural patterns and colours all around you. Craft a kaleidoscopic art bracelet and learn the science behind nature as you create an animal shape as you mix and match natural objects found in your backyard!
July 27, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Does Art Float?
Experiment with art and test the hypothesis of if art can float. Doodle with dry-erase markers and soak your artwork in water to see if it can float (and maybe even dance on the water's surface)!
August 3, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Pet Paradise
Plant your own chia pet, design and craft your own vet clinic, and take care of your furry friends all morning. With pillow forts, balls, and water stations, all the animal toys in our care will be well taken care of as we play with them!
August 10, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
3-2-1 Blast Off!
Become an astronaut and prepare for blast off! Craft balloon rockets on a string, develop your fine motor skills as you design your own rocket ship helmet and gear, and shoot scarves into the sky. Discover the science behind gravity as we count down our way to fun!
August 17, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Tiny Tinkers
Put on your construction hat and explore the joy of moving parts. Examine a trinket and experiment with the way that it floats, rolls, or stands tall after you tinker with it. Then, choose to improve the design or deconstruct it to build something completely new! The options for innovation are endless as we develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to grasp, pull, and push during this morning of engineering.
August 24, 2023 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Dino Dentist
Learn about brushing teeth with the power of time-sensitive play. In one-minute intervals, brush/paint your dinos teeth, then, colour them and compare how many teeth were cleaned. Empower your children to discover why humans AND dinos need two minutes to get their teeth squeaky clean. Afterward, at the Dino Tooth Paste Station, mix your own dino toothpaste!
