Introducing Discovery Lab: Workshops

DL Workshops

At the London Children's Museum, we see every day that hands-on, playful experiences are how children learn best. That's why we're excited to introduce a new way for our visitors to engage their curiosity and explore:

Discovery Lab: Workshops are brand new staff-led programs, included with general admission, that allow visitors to engage their curiosity, build, test, create, and problem-solve! Each workshop is focused, themed, and designed to engage children in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) thinking.

Everything You Need to Know about Discovery Lab: Workshops

What's the difference between Discovery Lab: Workshops and Open Studio?

Workshops are small group, staff facilitated, guided activities with a set start and end times. Workshops have limited spots to allow for deeper, hands-on learning. Open Studio sessions are drop-in, open-ended, self-guided explorations of materials and themes, without a limit on participants.

How do I join scheduled Discovery Lab: Workshops?

  • Check the calendar: Find upcoming workshop times, themes, age recommendations, and availability on our calendar page.
  • Pick up a wristband: Visit the Discovery Lab entrance 30 minutes before a scheduled workshop to claim a wristband. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Why do I need a wristband?

Workshops have limited capacity to keep group sizes small, interactive and full of wonder. Wristbands help us manage space so each child has the chance to fully participate, ask questions, learn, and engage with our Discovery Lab staff!

Do I need a wristband to supervise my child during a workshop?

No, only participating children need wristbands. Parent or caregiver supervision is required during Discovery Lab: Workshops. Grown-ups are encouraged to join in and support their child’s learning during the workshop!

What can I expect in a Workshop?

Each Discovery Lab: Workshop begins with a fun introduction from a staff member to spark curiosity and set the stage. Children will then experiment, build, or create around the day’s theme, sometimes working individually, sometimes in groups, with guided instructions.

Workshops end with a chance to share discoveries, celebrate creativity, and spark new questions to take home. Every experience is different, but all are designed to be hands-on, engaging, and inspiring for curious minds.
